In the book of Exodus we find that Moses took the Israelites through the Red Sea, and we see that they were in the wilderness for forty years. Exodus 14:21 says “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided.

The build up to the Red Sea experience with Moses; was caused through disobedient to God and it lead to the captivity of the Israelites. But God’s plan was in place. After Moses died, God commanded Joshua to take His people into the promise land.

Why did the Israelites have to go through the water twice? Because of their disobedience to God’s commandments, the wilderness experience cause God to expose their true character. When we are facing this wilderness experience; God is busy moulding us and forcing us into a situation where HE can bring out HIS character in us. Challenges and obstacles is part of the moulding process, which is how our character is developed.

The promised land that they were entering into represent the promises of God’s word; promises we need to declare over our lives to receive the victory in our situation. Victory is already given we just need to be in the right standing with God.

Joshua told the people to sanctify them, which means to be set apart or declare holy or be consecrated for God. Why Sanctify? Sanctify is the cleaning process and going through the Jordon represent the new birth. They had to leave the wilderness mentality behind, to receive the blessings on the other side of the Jordan. God’s people need to be Holy and pure for the next level of their journey. Crossing the Jordan was like a new birth, almost like being Baptist and receiving the Holy Spirit. The Jordan is a type of the Holy Spirit that cleanses, renews and restores God promises. The Ark of the Covenant (God presents) moved before them, and all obstacles has to bow, even the flow of the Jordan and the Red sea. By crossing the Jordon, God restored His people back unto Him.

When we are facing wilderness experiences; it does not mean that God has left us or moved from us, it means that we have moved from Him and we are not putting time into our relationship with Him.

Prayer: Father God mould my character to be obedient to your word and allow the flow of the Holy Spirit to develop and strength my relationship with you Lord in Jesus name Amen.
