When a fig tree is green and leafy it normally has fruit, but in this case it was not the season for figs. So why did the Lord curse the tree? The tree gave the appearance of being fruitful but was not producing any fruit. This scripture shows us that when we as Christians don’t produce the fruit of being born again, God is going to cut us out. God uses this example of seeing the tree from a distance, just like Christian s we can be seen from afar, but when people come near us to eat from us, we have nothing to offer or we look just like the world. We must be green, leafy and fruitful all year long, not just for a season. The Lord cursed the tree because it gave a false impression of being fruitful, just like some Christians who just give the impression of walking with the Lord yet lead many astray by their appearance.

Secondly when Jesus cursed the fig tree He never looked back to see if it was going to die or that it might not happen, because He knew from the moment He spoke the words it will be fulfilled.  This is faith at work, we need to stop looking back and doubt that the gifts, the purpose and the will of God will be fulfilled in our lives. If we start praying and speaking through faith God will use us mightily. This is a very powerful statement: “Faith received the answer in your heart well before you ever see it in your hands.” always remain in Faith, because the devil will come and attempt for you to reconsider and change your mind.

Thirdly – Jesus spoke to the tree meaning His word went out. Num 23:19 declares: “God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?”God exalts His word and will never go back on it. There is no contradiction between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit or the Word. They we in one understanding when this word was spoken over the tree.

In Numbers 23 Jesus says to his disciples: “that whosoever shall say unto the mountain be removed, and be cast into the sea and does not doubt in his heart, but believe that those things which he said shall come to pass.” We need to stand firm on the word of the Lord and not doubt, then we will move mountains in His name.

Prayer: Lord I come to you in faith, believing that your word has power to change every situation that I might be facing, casting down doubt and unbelief. I have confidence that you have already given me the answers to my prayers in Jesus name Amen.
